As we celebrate our eighth year organizing the KEIO TECHNO-MALL, we have established "New Fusion Keio" as our main theme this year. One of the main characteristics of the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Graduate School of Science and Technology at Keio University is nurturing new, groundbreaking fields of study through "academic fusion," the integration of academic ideas beyond their boundaries, and this is expressed in the relationship between our faculties and their specialized areas of study. KEIO TECHNO-MALL is about giving the faculty staff, who work in this environment every day, along with our young researchers and graduate students the opportunity to introduce and discuss their research and development achievements with the wider community.
The main missions of the university undoubtedly are: firstly, education, and secondly, research. In this day and age, given the various directions in which scientific and technological development is progressing, social contribution born of the research achievements the university sends out to the public is increasing in value with each passing day. In that light, nothing would give me more pleasure than for the various research achievements attained at Keio University to be given the opportunity to be brought before the public eye and to further develop, or for the same achievements to serve as a foundation for social cooperation. In addition to the activities of the academic society, I also place great importance on this opportunity where "individual skills" are gathered.
I would greatly appreciate your sharing of your honest opinions directly with the members at the booths. Thank you very much.
Dean, Keio University Faculty of Science and Technology Chair, Keio University Graduate School of Science and Technology

Welcome to the KEIO TECHNO-MALL.
We have been hosting the KEIO TECHNO-MALL here at the Tokyo International Forum every December since 2000, the same year the Keio Leading-edge Laboratory of Science and Technology was established. Academic-industry collaboration was still in its initial stages when KLL was first established, so the opportunity for university research achievements to be introduced to the off-campus community at an event of this scale was unheard of at other universities. It is our hope that the event will not serve as a simple technology exhibition, but that it will further provide a chance for you to learn more about our research achievements and about Keio University through the actual demonstrations and exhibits provided at each booth. We also hope that the event will serve as an opportunity for you to interact with our faculty staff and our students via open and lively discussions. We have named this event "KEIO TECHNO-MALL" with that purpose in mind.
The main theme this year is "New Fusion KEIO: Innovative Interactive-Alliance in KEIO." A number of research achievements unique to the university, such as researches with potentials for joint research with companies, and groundbreaking researches based on new concepts, are being introduced. Furthermore, we are hosting a discussion session entitled "Lead to the Science, Further Social contribution in Science and Engineering," in the hope that we can all discuss the future course of academia and industry social contribution . It is my sincere wish that, through such a debate, we will be able to develop a number of academia-industry collaborations that will guide our future.
Please enjoy your visit to the KEIO TECHNO-MALL today. Thank you very much.
Director, Keio Leading-edge Laboratory of Science and Technology
