We are at the time for the 7th KEIO TECHNO-MALL already. We appreciate that the event is considered highly as a technical session to introduce to the society new technologies brought forth by the Faculty of Science and Technology of Keio University. Through the KEIO TECHNO-MALL offering various opportunities for meetings and exchanges, industry-academia cooperation has been widely promoted. The 7th exhibition features new initiative, avoiding conformity that would stifle new ideas and innovative challenges. With the main strength laid on demonstration, the event features technical seminar sessions provided by faculty members.

For future industry-academia collaboration, it is essential to be cognizant of roles and characteristics of universities and business organizations to make the most of respective values. For university, we understand that novel seeds alone deserve opportunities for careful attention. Creative research work through freewheeling thinking should be achieved at a university having fewer restrictions than a business organization. It will be increasingly important to foster human resources through industry-academia joint projects, as well.

The KEIO TECHNO-MALL is based on a variety of cross-disciplinary research activities capitalizing on advantages as university. We think much of your opinions and value your favorable and critical reviews. Thank you.

The KEIO TECHNO-MALL has been annually held at Tokyo International Forum under the auspices of the Keio Leading-edge Laboratory of Science and Technology (KLL) since 2000 when KLL was established. Research achievements are gathered and demonstrated openly to the public. It is quite rare that an exhibition of science and technology to this extent is held by a university. KEIO TECHNO-MALL is not only an exhibition, but a place for exchanges between members of Keio University and various people from society.

Recently, with the big wave of worldwide globalization and the creation of new industry such as Internet, bio-technology and more, the world is about to change the conventional style of social structure largely.

Along with this change, as for the field of science and technology, a new interdisciplinary field is being born in addition to the former learning categories such as "physics", "chemistry", "electricity", "machinery" and so on. In the whirl of society changing and the evolution of science and technology, the importance of studying fundamentals at university is greatly increasing.

There is a university for the research of fundamentals. There is a business enterprise which develops it to the industry. The future leading type innovation, which is not the extension of what already existed, is born by the collaboration in this way. This is the base of "academic-industry alliance".

At the KEIO TECHNO-MALL 2006, let us return to the starting point and think about the meaning of "academic-industry alliance" and make this opportunity to a place of information interchange. Exhibition site is divided into two areas "Discovery Zone of Inventive Technology" and "Evolution Zone of Advanced Technology" with a seminar zone. You are cordially invited to participate at the KEIO TECHNO-MALL 2006.

In December 2000, the KEIO TECHNO-MALL was held for the first time in Japan as an initiative by a university for technical presentations and industry- academia collaboration. Since then, it has pioneered various industry-university joint sessions. With your kind support, the KEIO TECHNO-MALL has enjoyed more than 1,500 visitors, including several hundreds repeaters, in late years. In concert with the progress, industry-academia projects centered around the Keio Leading-edge Laboratory of Science and Technology have advanced and enhanced successfully.

Not being reconciled to the past results, but backing to where we started, we planned a visitors-oriented KEIO TECHNO-MALL in 2006. By collective efforts of the faculty members and graduate students, we aspire for the appealing event where visitors are all content with the values. We appreciate it if you would enjoy and be aware of a wide rage of technical potential of the graduate school of Keio University on this occasion.
