Outline of Application for KLL 2018 Master’s Program Research Grant


1. Objectives

The KLL endeavors to promote exceptional talents in the field of science and technology and to enhance the overall level of research level of the graduate school. It intends to achieve the objectives by providing financial support for students enrolled in the Master’s program who go abroad to make presentations at international academic conference. During academic year 2017, 258 students passed.

2. Eligible academic conferences for the KLL grant

The grant is provided for international academic conference overseas at which the applicant plans to read a paper.

  • *  Conferences must take place on or after April 1, 2018. Applicants must return to Japan by March 20, 2019. Procedures for receiving the grant must be completed by March 5, 2019.
  • *  Note that the student could apply for the grant after the conference if held on or after April 1, 2018.
3. Eligible applicants

Eligible applicants are the students enrolled in the Master’s program at the time of application, excluding those of non-degree course, at the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Keio University, who plan to read a paper on their own research at an international academic conference held overseas, and who have never received the KLL grant in the past.

  • *  Note that students completing master’s program and going on to the Ph.D. program in September 2018 are also eligible to apply, only if the conferences fall within the eligibility category of this grant program and are scheduled between October 2018 and March 2019.
4. Eligible expense items (up to a maximum of 150,000 yen)

The following expense items for participation in international academic conferences are grant-eligible.

  • (1)Actual air fares for a round-trip flight(actual cost of economy air fare), with Narita (or Haneda) International Airport as the departure/arrival airport
  • (2)transportation expenses to departure airport in Japan via most economical and reasonable travel route
  • (3)accommodation expenses in the conference venue
  • (4)transportation expense in the conference venue
  • (5)conference registration fee
5. Important reminder
  • (1)Grant recipients must comply with obligations including making a research report. Read through “the Procedures for Research Grant Application” before making applications.
  • (2)The applicant could simultaneously apply for more than one conference, but can receive ONE grant only. The grant CANNOT be used for other than the granted conference.
  • (3)Application can be accepted even if the presentation title is not yet finalized so long as the applicant plans to read a paper at the conference.
  • (4)Students in the Ph.D. program are requested to apply for the KLL research grant for Ph.D. Program.
6. How to apply and result notification

Apply through the digital application form.

7. Screening of Application
  • ・The number of Grant recipients is limited.
  • ・The KLL steering committee will screen all applications.
  • ・Each applicants will be notified of the result via email address written on the grant application.
8. Application period

From 13:00, Tuesday, May 1 to 13:00, Tuesday, May 15, 2018. No late applications accepted.
