Outline of Application for KLL 2020 Master’s Program Research Grant for international academic conference held in Japan

KLL Master’s Program Research Grant only covers international conferences held overseas, however, international conferences held in Japan are also covered only for fiscal year 2020.

We are pleased to inform you that we will be accepting applications for KLL Master’s Program Research Grant for the international academic conferences (either in-person or online)  held in Japan as follows.

If your application has already been approved in April grant applications, you do not need to apply for this call. Please refer to the “Procedures for Research Grant Application” already informed.

 

 

1. Objectives

The KLL endeavors to promote exceptional talents in the field of science and technology and to enhance the overall level of research level of the graduate school. It intends to achieve the objectives by providing financial support for students enrolled in the Master’s program who go abroad to make presentations at international academic conference.

2. Eligible academic conferences for this call

The grant is provided for international academic conference held in Japan at which the applicant plans to present a paper.

  • *  Conferences must take place on or after April 1, 2020. Applicants must return to Japan by March 20, 2021. Procedures for receiving the grant must be completed by March 5, 2021.
  • *  Note that the student could apply for the grant after the conference if held on or after April 1, 2020.
3. Eligible applicants

Eligible applicants are the students enrolled in the Master’s program at the time of application, excluding those of non-degree course, at the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Keio University, who plan to present a paper on their own research at an international academic conference held, and who have never received the KLL grant in the past.

  • *  Note that students completing master’s program and going on to the Ph.D. program in September 2020 are also eligible to apply, only if the conferences fall within the eligibility category of this grant program and are scheduled between October 2020 and March 2021.
4. Eligible expense items (up to a maximum of 150,000 yen) for domestic travels

The following expense items for participation in international academic conferences are grant-eligible.

  • (1) Accommodation expenses in the conference venue
  • (2) Transportation expenses in the conference venue
  • (3) Conference registration fee
  • < For domestic travels >

    - Accommodation expenses should be actual expenses, capped at ¥12,000 per night.

    - Transportation expenses should be actual expenses (“Green” seat fares are not eligible for disbursement).

    - Shinkansen “Nozomi” fares are eligible for disbursement.

    - In principle, use of a taxi is not eligible for disbursement. In the event that use of a taxi is unavoidable (due to lack of public transportation, etc.), be sure to receive a receipt.

    - Air transportation is restricted to destinations 500 or more kilometers away. Be sure to receive a receipt.

  • *  Note that in principle the grant recipients must bear the expenses that exceed the upper limit of this grant and ineligible expenses. Such expenses shall not be covered by the public funds.
5. Important reminder
  • (1)Grant recipients must comply with obligations including making a research report. Read through “the Procedures for Research Grant Application” before making applications.
  • (2)The applicant could simultaneously apply for more than one conference, but can receive ONE grant only. The grant CANNOT be used for other than the granted conference.
  • (3)Application can be accepted even if the presentation title is not yet finalized so long as the applicant plans to present a paper at the conference.
6. How to apply and result notification

7. Screening of Application
  • (1) The number of Grant recipients is limited.
  • (2)The KLL steering committee will screen all applications.
  • (3)Each applicants will be notified of the result via email address written on the grant application.
8. Application period

From 13:00, Tuesday, July 14 to 23:59, Monday, Augast 10, 2020. No late applications accepted.
